Though he was raised in the Middle class, he might as well have been centered in the Lower. Nestled on the borderline of scarcity, he's always had to work harder and harder still for everything he has obtained, despite constant ridicule from his caretakers.

He was constantly looked down upon, as somewhat of an anomaly, by both other children his age and the selected family who took him under their wing. Nothing was good enough for them and the isolation gradually ate away at him until he became the exact opposite of the person he wanted to be; strong, yes, but also hard-hearted and unwilling to trust.

It was only after an accidental run-in with Zack a few years prior that Cloud was subsequently thrown into a whirlwind of unfamiliar feelings. For reasons unbeknownst to himself, he admired the older man. He was everything that he strived to be; strong and confident, and so much more. From that point on, he gradually began to open up to him and, after a lingering period of doubt, grew to see him as something akin to an elder sibling.

He has since begun to, sometimes haphazardly, train with Zack, though it came with a tiny price. He plays housewife; cooking, cleaning and doing laundry since, at least according to Cloud himself, Zack couldn't make a TV dinner without messing something up or, worse yet, setting the house ablaze.

It was in somewhat of a damsel-in-distress rescue gone horribly wrong that Cloud met Aerith, via having her beat up the bad guys versus him and Zack. Despite having his pride ruthlessly stomped upon by a girl Cloud was rather quick to befriend, though he still has a bit of trouble expressing himself around her, limiting himself to three words or less.

He has become much more friendly, in a sense, since meeting Aerith and Zack.
